At Barefoot Atelier, we are trained in and use the Cool Tools program from the UCLA Lab School. Cool Tools is a program that complements the RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers) and Reggio Emilia approaches to early childhood education. It is also part of the Safe School program, which further enhances our commitment to creating a secure and supportive learning environment.
Cool Tools emphasizes:
Social-Emotional Learning: Children develop empathy, self-regulation, and communication skills, fostering a supportive classroom environment.
Problem-Solving Skills: Encourages critical and creative thinking through guided activities and collaborative projects.
Hands-On Learning: Integrates practical activities, making learning engaging and meaningful.
Positive Classroom Environment: Provides strategies for conflict resolution, positive reinforcement, and collaborative learning.
Safe School Program: Ensures a secure learning environment by teaching safety, respect, and responsibility.
Guidance For Abstract Thinking
An important component of our Safe School System, Cool Tools, guides children in resolving conflicts using concrete objects to teach abstract concepts. These tools help children explore and remember behaviors such as responsibility, kindness, and empathy.
At Barefoot Atelier, we believe that the Cool Tools program aligns perfectly with our Reggio Emilia-inspired approach, placing the child’s interests and relationships at the center of their learning journey. By integrating Cool Tools, we enhance our commitment to fostering a holistic and enriching educational experience for every child.
