All About Us

Our Philosophy

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that every child is a competent, curious, and creative individual. We embrace the Reggio-Emilia approach, renowned for its emphasis on child-led exploration and expression, and blend it seamlessly with the rich traditions and values of the Jewish heritage.

Our Environment

We strive to make a nurturing and interactive environment. Our indoor-outdoor classrooms are dynamic learning spaces where imagination and inquiry are not just encouraged but are the foundation of our curriculum. We have a vegetable and plant garden with several animals on-site, including chickens, rabbits, and more. We also have a dynamic and well-packed art studio as well and a variety of innovative tools and games that facilitate children’s natural curiosity.

Our Core Values

We believe in the power of ‘mindfulness’ – a core aspect of our teaching – which enables children to develop a deep awareness of themselves, others, and their environment. We help children become aware of their feelings and voice their needs.

Our Educators

Our educators are more than teachers; they are facilitators of learning, co-explorers, and observers who respect each child’s individual learning process. Everything we do is a learning experience – from crafting nutritious organic snacks together to dealing with inevitable conflicts.

Our Commitment

Our commitment to a holistic approach – one that balances academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth – prepares our children not just for school, but for life.

What Is An Atelier And How Does It Impact Children’s Education?

The concept of an “Atelier” in the educational sphere, particularly within the Reggio Emilia approach, represents a unique and pivotal element. Originating from the Italian word for an artist’s studio or workshop, in this context, it denotes a specially crafted space within a school that is dedicated to fostering creativity, exploration, and artistic expression. Integral to the Reggio Emilia philosophy, which emphasizes the environment as a crucial “third teacher,” the Atelier serves as a hub where children engage in creative exploration using a variety of materials and methods.

Central to the functioning of an Atelier is the role of the “Atelierista,” a teacher often with a background in the arts. This individual collaborates with children and other educators to weave creative thinking and artistic expression into the broader curriculum. The Atelier is outfitted with a diverse array of materials – ranging from traditional art supplies to unconventional items like recycled materials and natural objects. This variety encourages children to express themselves in numerous ways, prioritizing the creative process over the final product. The focus in the Atelier is on exploration, experimentation, and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The Atelier in a Reggio Emilia-inspired school is more than just an art studio; it’s a dynamic, collaborative environment. It promotes interaction and cooperation among children, facilitating the development of social and emotional skills. Moreover, the work and processes within the Atelier are often documented by educators, providing valuable insights into the children’s learning journeys and thought processes. This inclusive and accessible space is pivotal in nurturing every child’s ability to engage in creative expression, reflecting the Reggio Emilia philosophy’s commitment to holistic development through a nurturing and inspiring environment.

What Is The Indoor-Outdoor Environment Like And How Does It Affect The Children?
We have a large outdoor area that includes a vegetable and plant garden. We also are home to chicken, rabbits, tortoises, and other animals. Many of our indoor spaces blend seamlessly with the outdoor spaces, to provide a cohesive environment. Indoor and outdoor spaces in educational environments are both essential, each offering unique benefits for the holistic development of children. Indoors, structured learning is supported by resources like books, art supplies, and technology. This controlled environment is ideal for focused activities, fostering cognitive growth, creativity, and individual or small-group learning. Outdoor spaces, on the other hand, present a contrasting learning arena. Here, the natural world becomes a playground for exploration and discovery, encouraging hands-on learning. Activities like gardening or observing wildlife expand a child’s understanding of the environment, nurturing their curiosity and connection to nature. The physical and mental well-being of children is also significantly influenced by these spaces. Outdoors, the emphasis on physical activity – running, climbing, engaging in sports – aids in developing motor skills, strength, and overall health. This natural setting is known to reduce stress, enhancing mental well-being and encouraging imaginative play. Indoors, the environment is conducive to developing social skills, such as sharing, collaboration, and group participation, essential for emotional and social development. In essence, the blend of indoor and outdoor spaces in educational settings is vital. Indoors, a structured and resource-rich environment supports focused learning and social interaction. Outdoors, the freedom and interaction with nature foster physical health, creativity, and environmental awareness. Together, they provide a balanced and enriching experience, crucial for nurturing well-rounded, resilient, and adaptable individuals. This synergy of spaces is key in shaping the educational journey and overall development of children.
